Facial serum: what is it, how to use it

Most of you probably think that your daily skin care routine includes cleansing, moisturizing, applying sunscreen, and there's nothing else you can add. If you haven't added face serumthen you are missing out on a lot.

What is a face serum?

A serum is a skin care product that can be applied to the skin after cleansing but before moisturizing. It is a light blend of active and powerful ingredients that penetrate every layer of your skin. This makes it an excellent tool for solving many problems such as wrinkles, acne, dark spots. Serums help achieve perfect and flawless skin that looks healthier, more radiant.

Serum is a moisturizer?

Serums contain moisturizing ingredients (hyaluronic acid, ceramides) that help the skin retain moisture. But that doesn't make it a moisturizer. Creams are richer and create a barrier over the skin to hold all of these goodies. A serum is lighter than a moisturizer, making it ideal for layering. Therefore, it is used immediately after cleansing the skin.

How to choose the right face serum?

It is important to choose a serum according to the problems and type of skin so that it gives the desired result:

  • face serum with retinol – reduces signs of aging;
  • serum with vitamin C for the face – suitable for protecting the skin from free radicals and future damage.
  • hyaluronic face serum Helps skin look fresher and more hydrated and reduces dark spots.
  • rejuvenating face serum - the composition includes a high concentration of hyaluronic acid, already after two weeks, wrinkles are noticeably reduced.
  • brightening serums - help improve skin tone
  • serum for acne prone and sensitive skin - contain salicylic acid, which soothes, moisturizes, helps get rid of irritation.

How to use face serum?

The use of serums involves only three steps. It is worth starting with a cleansing of the face, then apply the serum, and pamper yourself with a nourishing moisturizer.

Serum can be applied in the morning or evening. Do not use the serum in the evening if the night cream contains a retinoid. The combination of the two products may cause irritation.
