How to celebrate a child's birthday in Moscow during quarantine

From school to sports to shopping, some of your child's favorite activities may have already been supplanted by the coronavirus pandemic and social distancing requirements. Unfortunately, the traditional birthday is also forbidden to be held under quarantine and pandemic conditions.

But you can still take a fresh look at your child's birthday to make it special.

Here are some ideas:

  1. Birthday Parade: Invite friends to create signs, decorate their cars, and cruise near your child's home for a birthday parade.
  2. Hangouts: Plan a virtual event using a video chat app like Zoom, FaceTime, Google Hangouts, or Skype. Invite your child's friends to join a birthday party, dance party, or group chat.
  3. Treasure Hunt: hide gifts in the house and give your child clues to find them.
  4. Hunting behind the rope: wind a long rope around the house, attaching gifts along the way. Have your child follow the rope to collect their gifts and find you at the end of the line!
  5. Hunting for garbage: send your child on a scavenger hunt around the house or in the yard.
  6. Spa day: schedule a day of home manicures, pedicures and hair styling.
  7. Game day: Treat your child to a fun day of board, card and video games.
  8. Bake a cake from scratch: Spend time with your child preparing and baking their favorite birthday dessert.
  9. Chef for the day: Let your child choose and cook their favorite meals for the day.
  10. Cinematic Marathon: relax on the sofa and watch your child's favorite movies.
  11. Camping: set up a tent indoors or outdoors for birthday camping.
  12. Card requests: Invite family and friends to make postcards for your child and mail them in time for the big day.
  13. Video message request: ask family and friends to send video messages. Bonus Idea: Ask your family's tech guru to combine all the posts into one big montage.
  14. Do a good deed: Encourage family and friends to do a good deed for your child's birthday, such as donating groceries to a pantry, housing agency, or first responders, and share a photo.

You may find that your child appreciates their pandemic party even more than the traditional one, and it will certainly make memories for a lifetime.
