10 Best Used Dual-Sport Motorcycles (DUAL-SPORT)

Motorcycles today dual sport - this is undoubtedly a spectacular sight. They are not inferior to special purpose dirt bikes (which means participation in performances and competitions) in weight, technology and operating behavior. But, damn it, well, they are expensive! It's hard to be the proud owner of a brand new Beta, KTM or Husky for less than $ 10,000. Therefore, most of us turn our attention to the used bike market.

This list is for motorcycles that are at least 10 years old. They are ranked according to their cost and ability to handle road mud. The bikes we selected represent the middle of the size distribution curve. We didn't include the big adventure bikes or small RV bumper bikes.

1.KTM 450, 530 (2008 and later)

We just had to put these bikes at the top of the list, because ... how good they are, you bastards! But their language will not turn out to be cheap either. Finding an old EXC for sale is not easy - people tend to keep their hands on them until the day they die. So get ready to pay the $ 6 thousand premium price tag. The reason KTM is so high in speculative buying and selling is because you can expect to get more value back on your investment when you sell it. If the hand does not flinch.

2.KTM 450, 525 (2007)

KTM first launched the EXC line in a street legal version in 2007, after Husqvarna proved it was possible. In 2007, KTM was still using RFS motors on its products, but don't turn your back on it for that reason. This bike is a great thing to go by any standard. Both configurations are good: both 450 and 525 (510cc). The only caveat is that today almost all of them are hackneyed to the limit. But they are still able to bring its owner an amount of about $ 4500.

3. SUZUKI DR-Z400SE (2000 and later)

Suzuki was and remains a great motorcycle. Perhaps, it stands out a little with its belonging to the "old school" against the background of KTM machines, which are located in the positions above. It's not as light, not as powerful, and not as well-suspended as most modern dual-sport bikes. However, it is well worth the money. A Suzuki DR-Z in good condition can cost in the region of $ 3,000. This bike from Suzuki has practically not undergone changes in its history of production, and therefore age and condition when it is sold play a significant role.

4. BETA RS450, RS525 (2008 - 2010)

This bike made our list because we love it. But you are unlikely to be lucky enough to find at least one copy of it. In 2008, KTM began using a new engine in its dual-sport, but continued to release the old RFS for the Beta. The RS line is 100% street legal and the motor did the same - great. Unfortunately, very few of them were imported (In 2008, probably, no more than a hundred pieces. True, the figure has improved slightly over time, but still). Beta will launch its motor in the coming years. This is a photo of a single RR dirt-bike model from 2008.

5.HONDA XR650L (1992 and later)

This bike has been the epitome and almost the standard of the dual-sport type for decades. It hasn't changed since its introduction in 1992. A solid distance! Today it seems a bit too old, but if you evaluate its ergonomics, you will find that it is too early to write it off. The suspension is awesome! If you don’t trick with the modification, then the air-cooled motor is practically eternal. Pricing varies, but keep in mind that a brand new manufacturer starts at $ 6899.

6. HONDA XR CONVERSIONS (1996 and later)

These motorcycles are a bit of a risky buy in some states. For example, in California and Nevada, it may happen that a DMV (an analogue of our traffic police) can scratch the back of the head and recall registration numbers to it, despite the fact that over the years they have merged with it into a single whole. In the more compliant states (Arizona, Vermont and Florida), it is usually easy to get numbers and costs a penny. Conclusion: if you live in a "strict" state and your XR400R, XR600R or XR650R will have properly issued numbers, then this fact can add a good $ 1,000 to the price of a motorcycle. But at any moment you may find yourself with twisted numbers.

7.HUSQVARNA TE510, 450 (2006 and later)

In 2006, Husqvarna became the first company to manufacture a standard street-legal dirt bike with a minimum DOT certification package. He was a great motorcycle, but extremely rare. In 2007, BMW acquired Husqvarna, and only then did the number of units produced increased and its quality improved. But in any Husky in 2006, all the shortcomings have already been eliminated and its price varies around $ 3600. The availability of spare parts for the Italian Husky is still stable.

8. HUSQVARNA TE250, TE310 (2006-2009)

We wish you good luck finding the street-legal Husky TE250 from 2006. They brought them in a scanty amount. The bike turned out to be excellent and then it was produced in a large number. In 2010 it was replaced by an all-new fuel-injected motorcycle, but it was somewhat sluggish in its first year of production. The TE310 and 250 that followed were amazing, but newer and more expensive than the bikes in this list. Expect to fork out $ 2,800 for a TE in good condition. There were also 310 with a carburetor engine, but there are only a few of them. These beauties cost about $ 3,500.

9.HONDA XR250L (1991-1996)

It's hard to believe that the XR250L classic was discontinued 20 years ago. Honda produced a fair amount of them between 91 and 96 and they are all still alive and on the move. The 250 was not very fast, but made up for with its light weight and good suspension for its time. There is no electric start - you have to cope without it. You can find a good XR for around $ 1,700.

10. SUZUKI DR350SE (1991 - 1999)

DR seems to be forgotten today, and he was a favorite and adored bike in his years. DR was the subject of massive attempts to boost its engine, but it held out against all of them. Best of all, he behaved in a standard form. Had an electric starter, air cooled engine, solid power and suspension. The downside is weight, which was typical of dual-sport motorcycles at the time. They are present on the market in completely different states. A good one costs $ 2000, a bad one - nothing.
