However, there are those who are found empty, but the crew never makes itself felt. Below is top 10 ships known for the complete disappearance of the crew under unexplained circumstances. Also take a look at the article 10 planes that disappeared without a trace.

10. Ocean Wave

The beginning of the story Ocean wave unable to cool the blood. Artist Bas Jan Ader decided to give a three-part performance on the ship. First, he had to go on a journey on behalf of the student choir, singing light songs to the accompaniment of the piano. Then Ader was going to cover the route from Cape Cod (America) to Falmouth in England on a boat no more than 4 meters in length.

After 8-10 weeks, he planned to appear in Falmouth with the final song, completing his performance. But the fact is, he never arrived in England. His boat was found empty at sea, and no trace of Bas Jan Ader was found. Some have speculated that he may have been carried away by a stray wave, passed out and fall out, or simply disguised as a suicide performance. In any case, Bas Jan Ader was never found. 9. High Aim

High aim - a Chinese ship that left the port of Taiwan in October 2002. In January 2003, he was discovered off the coast of Australia, but without a crew on board. High aim took the news again when one of the team members showed up. Only he was able to slightly open the veil of secrecy: the captain and mechanic were killed by the rest of the crew, who then went home. The reasons for the murder and the whereabouts of the team were never established.

8. Jian Seng

The next ship sailing Australian waters without a crew was a tanker discovered in 2006 Jian seng... The vessel had a torn cable at its bow, indicating that it was in tow when it was lost. There were no traces of a pirate attack, as well as no serious damage, so it really was a broken cable. You might think that the answer has been found.

But the ship, moreover, did not have a single identification mark and was not officially registered. Surprisingly, no one even worried about the loss of such a large ship as Jian sang, did not claim the rights to it. Attempts to start the engines also failed, as if they were fake. Some believe that it served as a refueling station for fishing boats, but its origin is still unknown.

7. Kaz II

Kaz II was a small yacht found near Australia in 2008. There were three people in the yacht as it left port, according to records.: Des Batten and two Tansted brothers, Peter and John. The sail of the yacht was torn, in the cabin there was still a switched on laptop and a half-empty can of coffee, but not a trace of the crew.

The investigator claims that the riddle is solved simply: one of the crew members fell overboard, trying to get the fishing line from the motor propeller, the second followed him, trying to save him; the last member of the crew turned the ship to pull the comrades out of the water, but the wind changed abruptly and the man was knocked into the water by the mast. Not surprisingly, this theory is widely criticized, however, the actual chain of events has never been reconstructed.

6. Lunatic

Lunatic was part of the dream of Jurija Sterk, a 72-year-old adventure seeker from Slovenia. He wanted to set two records: the oldest person who made an uninterrupted journey around the world and, moreover, who did it in the smallest non-motorized boat. It is, of course, difficult to call him a beginner.

On account of Sterke was already a trip around the world in 1991 and four books describing his adventures. He had a radio with him, but after the 2009 celebration, he stopped communicating. A passing ship stumbled upon empty, battered in storms Lunatic... The lifeboat disappeared along with the passenger and was never found.

5. Resolven

Destroyer team HMS Mallard discovered Resolven while he drifted lonely out to sea in August 1884. When the crew Mallard did not receive a response to the signal from Resolven, the team decided to disembark and examine the ship. There was nothing unusual on board, or rather, it looked absolutely as if it was inhabited: candles were burning in the galley, tables were full of food, but there was no one to eat it.

No damage or signs of struggle were found. The only clue to the mystery of the abandoned Resolven consisted in the loss of gold from the captain's cabin and boat. Resolven was taken in tow and manned with a new crew, but nobody solved the riddle of the old one.

4. Ghost boats of the Korean People's Army

This mysterious detachment of 12 wooden boats has been discovered in the coastal waters of Japan. From the state of the ships it was possible to judge that they had spent a very long time at sea, but what was most terrible was the crew, which consisted of 22 corpses.

Some of the bodies had their heads cut off, and 6 human skulls were found in one boat. The only hint of the origin of the ships was the inscription “Army of the People's Republic of Korea"On the side of one of them and a piece of cloth that looks like the remains of the flag of North Korea.

3. Sea Bird

Sea bird was a merchant court of 1750, run aground near the state Rhode island... On board there was no one except a dog and a cat, who happily rushed to the find the ship. Upon inspection, several features were found: there was a pot of boiling coffee on the stove, the table was set for breakfast, the tobacco still hadn't lost its smell, and the stamps could be seen on the tables.

But not a soul on board. The ship was in perfect condition, there was not a hint of disaster or even mutiny. The only clue to the mystery was the last entry in the ship's log “on the course of reef Brunton". There was no lifeboat on board, but news from the crew or the wreckage of the boat, too.

2. Manfred Fritz Bajorat

An even stranger find belongs to a Filipino fisherman - he found a dilapidated yacht sailing without control, although one member of the crew was on it. The corpse of a German sailor named Manfred Fritz Bayorat was found in the position in which he had a heart attack: leaning on the table, his hand extended to the radio. And what is most surprising is that the body has managed to be mummified. There was no news from Manfred from 2009 to 2016, so people believed him dead for several years, which explains that they did not try to look for him.

Salty dry air is believed to be the reason for his mummification; the process should have taken at least several weeks. But the autopsy revealed something that no one expected: Manfred's heart stopped about a week before he was discovered. It is impossible to explain why the sailor was hiding for so long, and how the mummification process ended so quickly.

1. Mary Celeste

If you collect all the stories about ghost ships from around the world, most of them will be about a ship called Maria Celeste. That's all we know about the most famous ghost ship. In November 1872, the ship's captain Benjamin Briggs boarded with his wife, daughter and eight crew members. They were heading from New York to Italy, but the journey did not last even a month before the ship was found sailing without any control or occupants.

There were no lifeboats, but half a year's supply of food and water remained intact. The ship was not damaged or attacked. There are several theories to explain this: rebellion or revenge by subordinates, an attack by pirates or a sea monster, or loss of mind due to poisoned alcohol. Whatever the reason, Maria Celeste remains the most famous mysterious ghost ship.
