20 best underrated manga to read

Today, literally tens of thousands of manga and billions of volumes are available to us.

Great titles can easily be overshadowed by many others.

Finding good but not popular manga to drink can be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

I've collected a bunch of these titles here and there are only two rules: it has to be really good and it has to be not so popular.

20. Soul Catcher (S)

I can imagine how difficult it is to draw music.

But for some reason musical manga is stilllots of .

What's rather unusual is the manga is about an orchestra.

Soul Catcher (S) tells the story of a boy who can see people's hearts. He uses this ability to control the music that moves them.

Despite the fact that the protagonist has supernatural powers, this is where the fantasy ends. Mixed with well-crafted humor, this manga can easily overwhelm you.

19. Kenshirou ni Yoroshiku (Say hello to Kenshiro)

There are many manga about revenge. But there is no other like Kenshirou ni Yoroshiku.

The protagonist suffered at the hands of the yakuza, but not for typical reasons.

He was not beaten, tortured, and the like. Instead, his mother runs off with a member of the Yakuza and leaves him at a very young age. This convinced him that the yakuza were the cause of his suffering.

He consults the holy book (read: Fist of the North Star) and follows Kenshiro's training. When the time is right, he ambushes the yakuza and shows them the legendary technique. That's when he learns that in real life, things like that don't work.

You probably already guessed that yes, this is a comedy manga.

The absurdity and exaggeration of the protagonist reveal funny moments.

18. Sousei no Taiga

Time travel is an interesting idea. But what if you were sent to a time when Homo erectus and Homo sapiens are still fighting for survival?

That's right: Sousei no Taiga is a group of students who are sent into the past without even knowing it.

While the art isn't really that remarkable, the storylinevery his compensates.

Caught in a surreal setting, the protagonists are forced to maximize their knowledge of the future by accumulating new knowledge from the past. All for the sake of survival.

17. Kokou no Hito

What's interesting about manga is the wide range of topics it covers.

It's not just about sword-wielding heroes who cut down monsters and consign them to oblivion.

From time to time you will see titles like Kokou no Hito.

It's about climbing and rock climbing, but somehow manages to show an exhilarating and bloody light.

It's also fun to watch the characters develop and find solace in climbing.

16. Rin

Bakuman is probably the twenty-first century reference for manga creation. From his breathtaking art to his story that speaks to the soul, "Bakuman"undoubtedly a masterpiece .

Rin something like that. Admittedly, Bakuman is much better than Rin, but Rin can match Bakuman in terms of story.

While the art isn't as amazing as Bakuman's, Harold Sakuishi has a unique way of making his main characters pop.

He tries to draw side characters much uglier than the main characters. I'm talking about disproportionate and exaggerated facial features.

15. Jisatsuto (Suicide Island)

The action takes place at a time when repeated suicide attempts have been abandoned by the government and the titular island is created.

The purpose of the island is to serve as a dumping ground for those who have repeatedly tried to commit suicide. They were left on the island without any resources. They only have what they wear and all means of communication with the outside world is prohibited.

Koji Mori, the creator of Sousei no Taiga, is also the creator of Jisatsutou, so a great storyline is already given.

A distinctive feature of Jisatsuto is the way he depicts gray areas. The main characters are not necessarily the good guys, and the bad guys are not necessarily the bad guys.

In the end, everything is just clippings from the same paper.

Ironically, everyone is just trying to survive.

14. Tantei Xeno - Nanatsu no Satsujin Misshitsu (Detective Xeno and the Seven Locked Murder Rooms)

As the title suggests, Tantei Xeno - Nanatsu no Satsujin Misshitsu tells how Detective Xeno uncovers seven locked murder rooms in an attempt to meet the series' villain and learn about his past.

As with Detective Conan, Xeno solves mysteries at the highest level. Each case requires extensive knowledge from different experiences.

However, unlike Detective Conan, Tantei Xeno for Nanatsu no Satsujin Missishitsu also emphasizes the genius of the murder.

Plan, motive and especially execution -all this pre-conceived and is pure genius.

It's like getting a difficult puzzle and seeing that it makes sense in the end.

13. Summer render

The protagonist's supposed peaceful mourning for a deceased childhood friend turns into a horror time loop.

Despite how sweet the name may seem, it is nothing but a lie.

This manga is filled with violence, gore, and high-pitched screams only to be swept under the rug. Then repeat all over again.

Despite the fact that it sounds so intimidating, Summertime Render is a real masterpiece.

This is one of those manga where you can clearly see the end point even if you can't tell exactly what it is.

But with plot twist after plot twist, it takes time to tell the story without making it feel like it's stretching.

12. Game Ore No Genjitsu Wa Ren'ai?? Ka To Omottara Inochigake No Game Datta

As you read this headline, you are probably wondering what exactly this article series is about.

Well, it's about a guy who wakes up one day with a gaming system. Like most games, there is a store, inventory, and even a save/load feature. But this is no ordinary game.

The protagonist contacts psychopathic killers and must either solve their case or die.

The idea is pretty unique. But the series may lack depth. However, this is an underrated item and worth checking out.

11. Caterpillar

I have always hated insects. They are creepy and creepy.

However, even I have to admit that these creatures are masters of their craft. It can even be considered that they have supernatural powers compared to humans.

Use these abilities to organize elite assassins and you'll have a Caterpillar.

Caterpillar action scenes are top notch. Each chapter is filled with goosebump-inducing jam.

10. Apocalypse without toride

Apocalypse no Toride brings something new to the tried and tested zombie look.

Instead of mindless monsters craving human flesh, the bokor, the zombies in this manga, retain a certain level of intelligence. In fact, they cannot make decisions, but they get stuck in a certain thought process.

Unlike many others, the main group in this manga doesn't care about the murders, as they are all in the penitentiary anyway. At the same time, the main characters make very few illogical decisions based on moral drama.

This manga makes me think that if a zombie apocalypse really happens, then prisoners might actually last longer than normal people.

9. Bambino

Cooking manga was well known as a genre even before Shokugeki no Souma became popular.

However, Bambino has somehow escaped the attention it deserves.

Bambino follows the story of a boy who decides to become a professional chef after high school.

But we all know that life is not so simple.

By impeccably demonstrating how harsh a restaurant kitchen can be, Bambino awakens the hidden passion of its readers. The protagonist's connectedness makes you sympathize with him, even if you have little or no idea what it's like to be in his situation.

8. Team Medical Dragon

Following the story of a genius doctor, Team Medical Dragon delves into the medical department.

Despite the complexity of medicine, this series is surprisingly easy to follow.

Even though the methods used are undeniably complex, I can still somehow figure out what's going on.

However, Team Medical Dragon's strength lies in character development.

Not only the main character is growing, because by the end of almostall characters somehow improved.

7. A-Boy!

O! this is no ordinary story of misdeeds.

The protagonist of this series is trying to prove that he is in fact the main character of the series. He has no problem using different tricks as long as he can be popular.

However, "A-Bout!" It's not just a fight.

This is a hilarious masterpiece with supernatural humor. There are many things in this series that will make you smile, from breaking down common stereotypes to using other common stereotypes.

6. Arachnid

Arachnid is a continuation of Caterpillar, although it was published before Caterpillar.

Being recruited into the same organization of killers as the protagonist Caterpillar, the protagonist Arachnid falls into a bloody mess.

However, unlike the Caterpillar, the Arachnid requires more training.

At first she anddid not come close to any of the killer levels.

But Arachnid's potential is greater than that of the Caterpillar, and she proves it by defeating a bunch of professional assassins of all stripes.

5. Sanctuary

The Sanctuary premise itself deserves more recognition.

It's about two best friends who decide to revolutionize Japan.

They have survived hell and are not afraid to take risks. They want to conquer the country through both extremes: the government and the underground.

The ideology that this manga represents is close to domestic. Actions, ideals and events are so realistic that I would not be surprised if this actually happens in real life.

4. When the night falls

When Night Falls gives you heavy Death Note vibes, but in a good way.

The protagonist seeks revenge for the murder of his sister. And these killers have returned to society after several years in a juvenile prison.

With a good head on his shoulders and gaining an uncanny ability to enter people's dreams, our MC is ready for the bounty hunt.

Don't get me wrong: while it looks like Death Note, the story is quitedoesn't look like her .

Unlike Light's desire for his own sense of justice, Wataru simply wants to give his sister's killers a taste of their own poison.

However, what both Death Note and When Night Falls have in common is that both have great stories and exhilarating mental battles.

3. Bartender

I personally think that seinen + slice of life is a great underrated combination.

The bartender is proof of that.

As the title suggests, this manga is about a genius bartender who goes about his business mixing and serving alcohol.

From this series of articles, I learned that bartenders are not only about mixing drinks, but also about healing customers.

To some extent.

It is interesting to see how the manga relates cocktails to life situations and problems. It even includes a recipe for recommended cocktails. What's not to like?

2. Grand Blue

Grand Blue easily tops my list of comedy manga.

This is one of the few manga that made me laugh out loud.

His humor is a mixture of alcohol jokes, perverted and nude jokes. And for some reason it is very effective.

Allegedly, this is a manga about diving.

But even Grand Blue agrees that it hardly touches this topic. In fact, there are more scenes about drinking alcohol and stupidity. And that's not bad.

1. Usogui

Usogui is a symphony of magnificence, and I don't understand why it's not so widely known.

The story revolves around the main character. He is a player who bets on his life.

There is also a powerful organization responsible for ensuring that bets are settled at the end of a match.

This series has action scenes that will allow Baki and Hajime no Ippo to compete for their money, and that's not even a highlight.

The psychological and mental battles in this manga are also insane. There are many twists and turns in the plot, which proves how well thought out everything is. Just a pleasure from cover to cover.
