Every person after waking up noticed puffiness under the eyes. Before you get rid of this trouble, you need to find out what provokes the appearance of puffiness.

Causes of edema

The skin around the eyes is tender. Due to the lack of sebaceous glands, it is very dry. When puffiness occurs in the body, it manifests itself mainly in the eye area. The swelling is caused by the accumulation of fluid in the body. A slight puffiness is present under the lower eyelid, sometimes around the entire eye. In women after 40 years, puffiness can also be found on the upper eyelid. At this age, the body can not cope with the removal of fluid from the body. Sometimes small bags can be the norm, for example for Asians.

The appearance of swelling is associated with such reasons:

  1. Fluid accumulation. If you like salty and spicy food, as well as drink a lot of tea or coffee, especially before bedtime. In the morning, you can notice an unpleasant effect on the face in the form of swelling in the eyelids. Drinking alcohol provokes bruising and bags under the eyes.
  2. Insufficient water intake throughout the day. In order to avoid swelling in the eyelid area, it is necessary to drink about two liters of clean water per day. In case of insufficient intake of fluid, the body begins to hold it in reserve.
  3. Violation of sleep and rest. In modern society, more and more people do not get enough sleep. Full sleep should last at least 8 hours. If you go to bed late and wake up early, the result is bags under your eyes. Try to go to bed no later than 23:00.
  4. Eye strain. Prolonged sitting at the computer or in front of the TV can cause swelling.
  5. The use of cosmetics, especially foundation and concealer, cause swelling. Be sure to wash off makeup at night. Do not apply nourishing cream before bed. It covers the skin with a protective film, thereby retaining moisture.
  6. Age changes. After 35 years, the intensity of collagen production decreases, the ability to retain fluid decreases. Fatty tissue becomes larger, it begins to protrude, it becomes especially noticeable in the lower eyelid area. The result is an impression of bags under the eyes.
  7. Hormonal imbalance. Before the onset of menstruation, the amount of estrogen increases, fluid retention occurs and, as a result, swelling.

Puffiness can be a manifestation of some diseases:

  • Mononucleosis - the eyelids turn red and swell, at an early stage a strong tooth;
  • Diseases of the kidneys and genitourinary system. Swelling under the eyes, frequent urge to empty the bladder, pain and fever.
  • Inflammation of the sinuses of the nose - in addition to swelling, fever and runny nose;
