10 unhealthy foods that are NOT good for dogs

If you have a dog, then you know that anything that quickly falls to the floor and smells like food becomes its treat. And as long as you don't notice that the dog is collecting food, just a few crumbs can be fatal or cause serious illness in your pet. Here are ten foods that are bad for your dog and that you can easily find at home.

10. Chocolate

Mmmm, chocolate. It's hard to resist this delicacy. But this sweetness can be fatal to the dog. Many people know about this canine hazard, but do you know why it is harmful to your pet? It contains theobromine, which can be found in all its forms. After your dog has eaten the chocolate bar, you can expect the dog to vomit, diarrhea, intense thirst, increased heart rate, tremors, seizures, or even death.

9. Grapes and raisins

Of course, they don't do much harm, but you shouldn't feed them to your dog. Even a small amount of grapes or raisins can make your pet feel unwell. One of the most common problems associated with tiny sweets is kidney failure. Watch for vomiting, lethargy, and depression. If you eat grapes or raisins, make sure not a single grape falls under your dog's nose.

8. Bow

It contains disulfides and sulfoxides (thiosulfates), which can lead to anemia and damage to red blood cells. What's more, onions cause gastrointestinal upset, can lead to asthma attacks, and even liver damage. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, discoloration of urine, and lethargy.

7. Sugar

Sugar is bad for humans (despite our love for it), and it's bad for dogs as well. Cross it out of your treat recipes (use honey instead). And just like in humans, sugar leads to obesity, dental problems and diabetes. If you have a dog, you can use it as a way to break your sweet tooth habit.

6. Milk and dairy products

Don't share ice cream with your dog on a hot summer day, because milk won't do any good! Milk and dairy products can cause dental problems. In addition, they lead to diarrhea and other allergic reactions.

5. Coffee and caffeine

No matter how moody your dog is in the morning, don't give him coffee or caffeinated drinks. This includes cola, tea and cocoa (also human cold medicines and pain relievers). Once the dog is full of caffeine, it can no longer be helped. Caffeine poisoning is associated with rapid breathing, anxiety, heart palpitations, muscle tremors, bleeding, and even death.

4. Macadamia nuts

Although packed with protein, these nuts are deadly to your dog. If a dog only eats six raw macadamia nuts, it will become ill. Watch for tremors, weakness or paralysis of the hind limbs, vomiting, high body temperature, and increased heart rate.

3. Yeast dough

You know how yeast dough expands. The same will happen in the pet's belly if the dough gets inside! The dog's belly will stretch, causing severe pain and a lot of gas. Also yeast can be found in alcohol, which can lead to alcohol poisoning.

2. Salt

You don’t salt dog food anyway, but human food contains it. For example, in chips or pretzels. Hold the pack tightly while you eat, as salt tends to poison dogs with excess sodium ions. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, high fever, lethargy, and seizures.

1. Peaches, plums and persimmons

Peaches and plums are not so much dangerous in themselves as their bones are. Swallowed bone can cause intestinal obstruction, and persimmon seeds can cause inflammation of the small intestine. Moreover, the seeds of these fruits contain cyanide. We cannot gnaw them with our teeth, and we do not swallow them, but dogs do not know how deadly they can be. Make sure to discard the seeds after you finish eating.
