11 most dangerous borders in the world

Historical rivalry, economic inequality and disputes between neighboring states make the borders between them insecure.

11. Iraq / Iran

One of the most dangerous borders in the world lies between Iraq and Iran, starting exactly from the Shatt Al-Arab River on the border with Turkey. Although the border was determined hundreds of years ago, disputes over territory (in particular, over the use of the river) continue.

In 1980, Iraq accused Iran of illegally occupying the territory and launched rockets. Eight years later, having lost 1 million lives, 2 countries signed a UN resolution. However, even this did not stop the fighting and attacks continued.

10. Pakistan / Afghanistan

The border between Pakistan and Afghanistan is called the "Durand Line" and stretches for 1,510 km. Border disputes have been fought for years and have recently been contested by the Taliban and then by the President of Afghanistan in 2001. In 2003, military forces on both sides were involved in an armed conflict, and after 4 years Pakistan began building barriers to keep Taliban militants from crossing the border.

The danger is that the state does not control the carrying of weapons by people, and this has led to smuggling, murder, robbery and kidnapping. Most recently, the highway connecting the two countries was closed, it was closed due to disagreements, and Pakistan also built a barrier gate. The controversy ended after a border shootout in which 3 people were killed and 24 wounded.

9. China / North Korea

China and North Korea are separated by two rivers - Yalujiang and Tumangan, as well as by Mount Paektu. Borders here are poorly secured, with many people fleeing North Korea. Over the past decades, both countries have started building fences and walls.

At first, the Kim Jong Il regime helped to raise the level of illegal migrants from North Korea in China, as a result, territorial disputes became a problem. There are also reports of North Korean soldiers crossing the border in order to steal food and money, as employees are on a low level of support and receive small portions of food.

In April 2016, about 2,000 combat units were deployed on the border after reports that Pyongyang was planning nuclear tests. China has confirmed that 3 citizens of the country were completely killed at the border, the investigation is ongoing.

8. Colombia / Ecuador

Disputes between Colombia and Ecuador have escalated recently over the Colombian rebel group called the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (People's Army or FARC). On several occasions, the Colombian government has sent troops into Ecuadorian territory in an attempt to attack. FARC members violently seized land along the border; using mortars and mines, they forced thousands of indigenous peoples to leave their lands. This group is responsible for the murder of over 200,000 people over the past 50 years.

The number of people killed in border towns reached 96 per 10,000 people. Due to the fact that the Ecuadorian president claimed that the Colombian military did not have permission to cross the border, the Colombian government accuses Ecuador of harboring terrorists. Ecuador has since taken many measures to get rid of the FARC terrorists.

7. Niger / Chad

One of the deadliest terrorist groups, Boko Haram, can be seen along the Niger-Chad border. To combat this group, Chad sent 2,000 troops to the city of Bosso, on the side of Niger. In connection with the violence and the arrival of troops, 17,000 people left the city, 32 soldiers (2 soldiers of Chad, 30 soldiers of Niger, and 55 terrorists) lost their lives. The two countries have been conducting joint operations since early 2015.

6. Yemen / Saudi Arabia

The border between Yemen and Saudi Arabia has a high level of violence. Both countries have been in conflict over the past 65 years. Saudi Arabia has seen an increase in arms smuggling, al-Qaeda terrorists, refugees from Ethiopia, Somalia and Yemen, prompting the government to build the wall. Yemen opposes this construction, as it believes that it interferes with local shepherds.

These countries have been officially at war since March 2015. About 6,000 civilians and soldiers have been killed since the start of the war. In just one day, 15,130 rockets and mortar attacks occurred in Saudi Arabia.

5. Bangladesh / India

Bangladesh and India share a 4000 km border, one of the longest in the world. The border is complex and confusing. It so happens that the territory of Bangladesh may be located on the borders of India. Sometimes the borders of India surround Bangladesh. This serves as a route for smuggling from India to Bangladesh and for illegal migrants from Bangladesh to India.

Due to the high level of migration, India's border forces are shooting without warning. Sometimes, “illegal crossings” are the result of difficult border lines, and there are attempts to simplify them with Bangladesh. This '' by eye '' shooting policy resulted in 1,000 deaths between 2000 and 2010.

4. Mexico / USA

The Mexico-US border stretches from California to Texas for a total of 1,989 km, with one of the highest illegal crossings in the world. It passes near large settlements and most of the uninhabited desert. Roughly 20,000 border patrols are concentrated near densely populated cities, leaving deserted areas unprotected.

This facilitates the crossing of 50,000 people through the deserts, where hundreds of them die every year. Particularly dangerous is the El Paso Juarez area, known for its drug lords, drug smuggling, weapons and people across the border. Hundreds of people have died here following violent clashes between police and gang groups. The violence has spread to American territories as well.

3. Israel / Syria

The debate about changing the border between Israel and Syria has been going on for many years. In 1920, Britain divided the border between them in such a way that Syria withdrew towards France. Then the Golan Heights were turned on again. It is for this zone that they have been actively fighting for almost a hundred years. Today this zone is a hotbed of confrontation between both sides. Violence has increased markedly since the civil war broke out in Syria.

2. India / Pakistan

The Indian-Pakistani border is 2,900 km long and heavily guarded in an extremely dangerous place. It is so well guarded that only the high voltage fences on the Indian side are visible from space. Partition in 1947 resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths and wars in 3 countries, and the mountainous glacier area of Kashmir province was contested for 25 years. The number of victims reached 50,000.

1. South Korea / North Korea

The Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is a 241-kilometer border between North and South Korea. This area is heavily guarded by troops on both sides, and is also equipped with barbed wire and active mines. The end of the Korean War did not end the divisions between the two peoples. They have been at enmity for 60 years and do not recognize each other's independent status.

Hundreds of people have died due to conflicts. The DMZ plays the role of a kind of buffer that protects the parties from open conflict and creates a distance between them. Anyone who tries to cross the border will be shot.
