The best nuns and priests in anime

I'm not exactly a religious person. But man really anime makes me want to go to church.

I don't know why, but anime just can't help but create charming and healthy nuns. And an extremely handsome father of material priests. What's up with that?

Well, let's dive into the house of worship (anime) and appreciate some of the best nuns and priests characters.

10. Gyomei Himejima

Anime: Demon Slayer

I'm going to start with Gyomei because if you're an anime fan, you probably don't know much about this pouty and hulking man.

I'm sure he got everyone's attention as soon as he was introduced, because heexcelled all other characters in size. And yet wept and prayed for the well-being of all.

He was brought up in the temple. And it's only in his wardrobe that we can see that it definitely had an effect on him.

He is the only one who looks more like a saint than a warrior.

9. Ruri

Anime: Dr. Stone

Ruri is the priestess of Ishigami Village and the source of everything precious in the show.

Despite being very ill, she tries her best to be close to her people and not bother anyone, especially her gorilla sister.

However, this changes when Senku Nai, a scientist, joins the picture.

After that, we can see a little more of Ruri's personality. And, as we all expected, she is too useful for this world. Plus, she's surprisingly smart.

8. Index Librorum Prohibitorum.

Anime: Magic Index

My heart just hurts from this.

Let's just say Index isn't exactly perfect in real life.

She is trained by a nun, endowed with an excellent memory and the ability to not succumb to the influence of grimoires. They are a dynamic duo capable of taking over the world.

However, every year her memory is erased and she cannot use mana. What a strange coincidence, right?

Because she only has one year of memory, she acts very childlike, but in the best possible way.

She is kind, naive, stunned by technology, and truly cares about her partners. An unforgettable nun, if I've ever seen one.

7. Shiro Fujimoto

Anime: Blue Exorcist

Shiro is that loving father who just makes you want to cry and maybe call your parents or pastor.

He is a down to earth guy who does his best to take care of Rin and Yukio as well as protect the Earth from demonic threats.

And while he's very tough (okay, he's technically the world's coolest exorcist, but that's not what I'm talking about here), we'll see how much his fight with Rin affected him. I promised myself that I wouldn't cry.

6. Oak Hakuren

Anime: 07-Ghos

This is one of those characters that you initially think you will hate, but then you are pleasantly surprised.

Despite coming from a wealthy family with great political influence, Hakuren decides to become a bishop. Which is pretty noble for him.

However, what I liked most about this character was his approach to the princess.

He was appointed as her mentor. And instead of manipulating her for his own benefit, he used her to point out the suffering of the people to higher authorities.

Which, I think, is also manipulation, but like holy manipulation.

5. Shinpu

Anime: black clover

Shinpu uses many of the same notes as Shiro. Basically his down to earth nature and the fact that I want him to be my father and my father, but in a slightly different way.

Shinpu isfull blown fool and most of its screen time is either very useful or funny.

Even though he is visibly upset that both of his boys went to the real world to pursue their dreams, he is still proud of them. And cries like a baby when they come to visit.

I like the old fart.

4. Rosette Christopher

Anime: Chrono Crusade

As a holy figure, Rosetta is rather difficult to read.

On the one hand, she dedicates her life to finding her missing brother and is fully prepared to give up her own life to save him or someone else she holds dear.

On the other hand, the way she saves him is quite peculiar as she made a pact with the demon and everything.

So maybe she doesn't quite get the nun of the year award. But she is definitely the best sister one could ask for.

3. Chitose Nanbu

Anime: Oh my Buddha

I am again at odds with how holy this character is.

The premise of the show is simple: a dude living with a bunch of nuns, and Chitose is clearly the best one.

The guy has great spiritual power, but he can only release it when he becomes truly aroused.

Thus, Chitose seems to satisfy his need, so they can exorcise spirits and generally save the day.

It also helps that she likes this guy even though Buddha knows she will never admit it.

The show may not have received any anime awards. But at least Chitose was worth watching.

2. Maria Takayama

Anime: Haganai: I don't have many friends

You don't usually expect to see a 10 year old nun in a high school anime. But this time it was worth it.

Since she is 10 years old, Maria behaves as you would expect.

She is easily deceived and easily provoked to call others rotten tangerines, which I think is the heaviest insult for a child.

And, of course, she develops a good brotherly and sisterly relationship with Kodaka. It's always nice to see.

Of course, this is a bit unfortunate since he has a sister who loves the demonic... but that's another story for another day.

1. Sister Lily

Anime: black clover

Even though Sister Lily has very limited screen time, weall We know that she is the best goddess.

I mean, she was cute enough that Asta, a boy with zero magical powers, decided to become the Wizard King.

And while she sometimes has to smash him into the ground with her magic, it's no secret that Lily cares deeply for Asta, Yuno, and all the other children in her care.

Plus, she and Shinpu make such a good duo that I can't mention one without the other.
