Sun Country (2020)
This is my new favorite lesbian movie of all time. I know it's hard to say, but I really like it!
It's hard for me to talk about this movie without spoiling the plot.
Let me just say this story is told by Alice looking back on her interracial lesbian love story with Vera (played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw, you might know her from the lesbian episode "Black Mirror" ?).
The film tells in three time frames: one is that she is old and writes a book, the second is that she is a young woman and lives by the sea, and the third is a student and together with Vera.
The period when she lives alone by the sea is the main timeline.
Alice hates children, but then she is assigned to look after a child from London. However, this child will change her life.
The Land of the Sun movie is so important because it tells a story of interracial lesbian love that hasn't been shown before.
We highly recommend this lesbian movie!
Portrait of a girl on fire (2020)
This is a lesbian film about the 18th century female artist Marianne, who is hired to paint Eloise, who will marry an Italian nobleman against her will.
And this is one of the best lesbian stories we've seen! And not in a patriarchal, creepy male look.
Queer female filmmaker Celine Sciamma talks about the feminine look - literally two women look at each other a lot - and it's not just "oh, I feel pretty when you look at me like that."
It's about looking and really seeing each other. There is no sense of audience/creepy onlookers, it's purely about desire and intimacy between two women.
And, unlike any other French film, there's not a lot of overt intimacy here. And yet it's so hot!
To the Stars To The Stars (2020)
Set in 1960s Oklahoma, this bizarre coming-of-age drama seems to turn into a cliché, but then it cleverly confuses them and flips the story around.
This is not your average teen drama and we're here for it!
Iris is a bit of a loner until Maggie's new girlfriend changes that. It's a pretty old-fashioned story, and there's a powerful exit scene that shows the self-hatred and internalized homophobia that many queer teens are familiar with.
It's a heartbreaking glimpse into the past, and one that makes us hope for a much better future.
Mulholland Drive (2001)
At first, I only wanted to include films out of 20 -th century on this classic lesbian movie list, but since most of this movie was made in 1999, this movie still counts on my eye!
A woman hides in a house after a car accident on Mulholland Drive (but she has amnesia). The residence is Aunt Betty's house in Los Angeles.
Betty helps Rita (name chosen from the movie poster) find out who she is, and their bond grows. And then they sleep together!
The film's slogan is "a love story in the city of dreams" and this love story unfolds between two women!
However, the lesbian story isn't the focus of the movie - because it's a David Lynch movie, it's all pretty clear!
Kiss me (2011)
This is my girlfriend's favorite lesbian movie and was already in her DVD collection before she knew she was gay (I know how could she not know?).
In short: Mia is engaged to Tim but falls in love with Frida, and of course the whole thing is complicated.
I was afraid it would be campy, but it does a really good job! There are a few flaws, but a lot becomes right.
The characters have depth and they are not caricatures. Fiancé Tim is not a bad guy, and Bi Mia is absolutely right.
It may help that the film was directed by a woman and is probably European ("Kiss Me" - Swedish film.
All I Have (2015)
Lesbian age gap is not a common theme in films, but we are so glad we made a movie about it!
Laurel, a New Jersey detective, has cancer and must fight for her 19-year-old partner, Stacey, to get her pension rights.
This is a film about the inequality that LGBT people face.
Unfortunately, the film turned out to be less radical than the screenwriter intended - it wasdistorted, to cater to a wide audience - but it's a movie worth watching!

The film is not about a lesbian, but the main character Marla Grayson, played by the fantastic Rosamund Pike, is a lesbian.
Yes, she is an evil lesbian and we want to warn you about one of the lesbian tropes (without spoiling too much). But everyone in this movie is evil.
What is this movie about? Marlo Grayson is a legal guardian who takes care of older people who can no longer take care of themselves. She is in charge of their finances and everything they have.
And well, she doesn't really care about them. Marla puts them in an apartment building and cuts them off from the outside world in order to steal everything they have.
My days with Mercy (2017)
It's not a very light film, but it's also not as heavy as one might expect. The film is no ordinary lesbian romance; in fact, it is only part of it.
Lucy's father (Elliot Page) is awaiting execution. Along with her sister and younger brother, Lucy became an anti-law activist.
At one of the protests, she meets a girl, and their love story begins.
It's not necessarily difficult in the usual way, so it's interesting to watch.
The intimate scenes are great and lesbian director Tali Shalom Ezer tells the story very well.
Duck Oil (2018)
When you go out for drinks and meet people, it usually doesn't end with a pact with a stranger that you'll spend the next 24 hours together without being distracted from having sex. But real life is not like duck butter.

In an attempt to spice things up, they bring in a rather stranger for the night in an attempt to rekindle the fire they had at the beginning of the relationship. It's getting hot, that's for sure.

Perfect End (2012)
Yes, this is another story about a woman named Rebecca who never had an orgasm. But in her defense, she's stuck in a loveless marriage with a man she only has sex with every six months (!!!). Her two best friends tell her to hire an escort to fix the problem, and things start to get better very quickly. Come on, Rebecca, let's go!
Better than Chocolate (1999)
Maggie is just starting to get hot and hard with her new girlfriend Kim when her mother and brother call to say they are moving.
