Papanashi recipe

This recipe is a typical Romanian dessert and I really liked the taste of it. It's like a kind of ball that tastes like fartura (Portuguese-style donuts), without sugar, instead it's served with raspberry sauce, you can use another, depending on what the chef prefers.

The recipe is designed for 8 servings and is prepared in 20 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 500 g cow's cheese (fatty)
  • 2 eggs
  • 100 g sugar
  • 5 ml vanilla essence (1 teaspoon)
  • 200 g wheat flour
  • 2 g baking soda (1 teaspoon)
  • 500 ml sunflower oil (for frying)
  • 400 g sour cream
  • 400 g sweet fruits or anything else sweet

Cooking method:

  1. Mix cow cheese with eggs, sugar and vanilla extract.
  2. Separately, mix flour with baking soda.
  3. Mix flour with cheese mixture and mix well. As a result, the dough will become sticky and soft. You can add a tablespoon of flour if it's too sticky.
  4. Sprinkle the dough with flour. Don't knead too much or the dough will be too hard.
  5. Divide the dough into 8 larger balls (papanashi) and 8 more smaller balls. The small balls will become the ball at the top of the papanashi.
  6. Make a larger hole in the middle of the papa.
  7. Pour the oil into a saucepan over medium heat. When it's hot, put two or three pieces of papanashi into the pan. papanashi will swell in the pan, so do not put too much, otherwise there will be no room.
  8. Place the smaller balls with other balls until they turn brown.
  9. Remove the fried balls with an absorbent paper towel to remove excess oil.
  10. Serve hot papanashi with cream and sweet jam.
