How to Fix Wi-Fi Issues on iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro

Here are some time-tested solutions to fix Wi-Fi connection issues on your iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

1. Restart your router.

Before we go into troubleshooting an issue on an iOS device, let's go through some basic router-level troubleshooting as this has helped resolve the issue for a few readers.

Reboot your router and try connecting your iPhone or iPad again to see if that solves the problem.

A router is like a mini computer with a processor, memory, and local storage in a plastic case running an operating system. So, just like with a computer, restarting your router can fix the problem. It is also recommended to wait 10 seconds after turning off the router before restarting it to make sure that all capacitors are completely discharged and thus every bit of memory is cleared. This ensures that any router settings that may be causing the problem are reset.

2. Update the firmware of the router.

Update your router firmware to make sure any known bugs are fixed. Some readers have reported that updating the router firmware helped resolve the issue.

3. Force reboot

Like all technical issues, there's nothing wrong with starting with a hard reset or hard reset of your iPhone or iPad to see if that helps.

On iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, press the volume up button, then the volume down button, and then quickly press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo. You can check our post on how to hard reset iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro if you need more help.

4. Forget the Wi-Fi network and rejoin

If you are unable to connect to a Wi-Fi network and you are prompted for an incorrect password despite entering the correct password, try forgetting about the Wi-Fi network and rejoining the network.

To forget about a Wi-Fi network, tap the Wi-Fi network on your iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, or iPhone 12 Pro Max from the list under "Settings"> "Wi-Fi" . Then click " Forget this network" . You will be prompted with a pop-up message asking if you want to forget about the Wi-Fi network. Click "Forget", to forget about the network.

Now go back toSettings"> "Wi-Fi" , select the network again, enter the password, and reconnect to the network to see if that helps.

5. Reset network settings.

Most of the network issues I encountered were fixed after resetting the network settings. Resetting these settings clears caches and clears DHCP settings and other network related information. To reset your network settings, open the Settings app and go to "Settings"> "General"> "Reset" and click Reset Network Settings.

6. Disable VPN.

If you enabled through the Settings app or the VPN app, try disabling the VPN to see if that solves the problem. You can disable the VPN through the Settings app and go to the VPN settings to disable the Status switch from Connected to Not Connected. If you can't turn it off, run a VPN app to disable your VPN temporarily to see if it fixes the Wi-Fi issue on your iPhone or iPad.

7. Turn off Wi-Fi network services.

Many users have reported that they solved their problems by turning off the Wi-Fi network in Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services. This only applies to your location used for the Wi-Fi network, so it doesn't turn off Wi-Fi completely.

8. Change the DNS server.

If you're experiencing slow Wi-Fi speeds on your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro, it could be due to your ISP's DNS servers. You can switch to Google DNS, CloudFlare, or OpenDNS to see if Wi-Fi speeds improve. You can follow the instructions in our article to change the DNS server on your iPhone.

9. Ask to join the network

It's not a perfect solution, but if none of the solutions mentioned above work, you can try enabling "Ask aboutconnection to networks" by selecting "Settings"> "Wi-Fi" .

10. WiFi Assist.

iOS includes a feature called Wi-Fi Assist that provides a more reliable Internet connection when your Wi-Fi network becomes unstable. However, some readers have reported that turning it off and on again seemed to fix the Wi-Fi issues. To turn Wi-Fi Assist off, launch the Settings app and go to Settings -> Cellular (Mobile in some regions) and scroll down where you'll see Wi-Fi Assist. Click the switch to turn it off.

11. Restore and set up like a new iPhone.

If none of these tips solve your problems, the last resort is to restore your iPhone or iPad via iTunes and set it up as a new device. This way you will start over and get rid of possible problematic settings and settings on your device. Follow the instructions in the post below to perform a full restore to the latest version of iOS via iTunes.

12. Visit the Apple Store.

Even after completing all these steps, you still have issues, then you can visit your nearest Apple Store to inquire about any possible hardware related issues.
