The 25 best survival movies of all time. Part 1

Prepare a cup of tea and keep this list for yourself, it will come in handy. Everyone loves survival movies. Whether it's a story about people on a desert island, about a plane crash and surviving in the snow, or about a soldier who was captured during the war. Isn't it wonderful that all this can be experienced while sitting at home on a soft sofa with a plate of fragrant popcorn.

Why do we watch such films? Well, we don't always have the opportunity to get out into nature, make a friction fire, put up a tent or go hiking, so while on holiday with the family or during home weekends, all that remains is to admire how others cope with survival in extreme conditions.

Well, let's start with one of the most beloved films of all.

Survivor (2015)

If you've heard about this film, you will immediately understand what this is about. If not, then all you need to know is that this is the story of Leonardo DiCaprio, torn to pieces by a bear, fighting for his life in the ice forests of Alaska.

Again, not exactly your typical survival movie, but The Survivor clearly contains elements of survival in the wild. That only are his horrific wounds, from which it becomes uncomfortable when watching. In addition, the film reveals the history of America, the survival skills of the indigenous people of the mainland, their medicine and way of life.

Touching the void (2003)

A very addictive documentary, it will literally blow the viewer on the spot, so it is hardly suitable if you want to relax in front of the screen in the evening. He is more likely to keep you emotionally tense, despite his documentary genre.

It may not be exactly what people mean by a survival movie, but Touching the Void is the real story of the dangerous journey of Simpson and Yeats, who tried to conquer the summit of Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes in 1985, but things went a little off plan.

In addition to the wonderful story of these two experienced climbers, the plot tells about survival, almost fatal injuries, hunger, thirst, all in the most difficult conditions. The film reveals not only the fear of climbers, but also the chilling beauty of giant mountain ranges, ice crevasses and the partnership of two surviving climbers.

The Martian (2015)

This time the events unfold in space, more precisely on Mars, where a sandstorm forces the team to urgently leave the planet's surface. Only now they forget one team member who now has to survive alone on a lifeless planet with limited resources.

There is not even organic matter in the Martian soil, so the hero of Matt Damon resorts to plant growing, using his biological waste to grow food and prolong his existence. With all this, he must keep his sanity in search of new sources of energy, food and drinking water on the merciless red planet.

Desert (2015)

A group of Mexicans breaks down as they try to illegally cross the American border. Now they have to walk. The film touches upon the important problem of the United States with illegal migrants, but no less important are the methods of survival that the heroes resort to, overcoming their thirst, serious injuries and the state border.

Against the sun (2014)

Against the Sun is based on a true story of US Navy pilots who had to survive in the water after their bomber crashed in the Pacific Ocean. The film is predominantly set on a small life raft drifting in the middle of a vast ocean full of dangers.

The film opens your eyes to how truly sinister nature can be, in this case the open sea, where dehydration, hunger and, of course, bloodthirsty sharks can overtake you.

The Way Home (2010)

If you're looking for a great survival movie, then by no means miss The Way Home. This is a gripping story about the escape of Polish prisoners from Soviet camps, who will have to walk 6,000 kilometers through the battlefields of the Second World War.

Surviving in the cruel snows of Siberia, where you freeze to death overnight, is only half the trouble. After the terrible frosts, the main characters are waiting for the heat of the Mongolian desert. In fact, the film combines the drama of various difficult conditions in which the heroes have to make inhuman efforts to survive.

Perfect storm (2000)

Perhaps after watching this movie, you will say to yourself: "I am not on the boat anymore." This is natural, because the film tells about a monstrous storm in which a fishing boat fell.

The film is based on a true story about fishermen who disappeared during a storm in 1991. The vessel found itself in a zone of great turbulence, when the crew overcame giant waves, trying to keep the boat afloat. If the action of most survival films takes place in forests or on an island, then here we see that danger can await us in any corner of the planet.

Rabbit cage (2002)

This film is not about war and not about wildlife, the action takes place in Australia of bygone times, when the indigenous people of the mainland were abused or abducted, and children were taken away from their parents. Add to all this Australian wildlife, heat and desert roads - and we have incredibly brutal living conditions.

And in these conditions there are three girls: 14, 10 and 8 years old. For 9 weeks, they walk 2,400 kilometers along the rabbit-proof fence to get home. It would seem much worse, but the police are looking for them and the tracker pursues them.

The story of ingenuity and survival in such conditions is striking, enthralling, and illustrates how knowledge of the area can help you survive.

Apollo 13 (1995)

The film is based on the real events of 1979, when an accident occurred on the Apollo 13 spacecraft, which was heading to the moon. The action takes place in space, where critical thinking is necessary for survival, since in conditions of being on a cramped spaceship far from the Earth, the usual laws of physics do not work.

NASA technicians were involved in the making of the film to ensure that the film is as believable as possible and that the events are accurately portrayed.

Usually in these films there is a lack of food and water or extreme temperatures. Here, people are faced with a lack of oxygen as a result of the explosion aboard Apollo.

Survivor (2013)

The events unfold in Afghanistan, where a reconnaissance detachment of 4 seals is trying to get out of the enemy's zone, being under fire from dozens of Taliban attacks.

The film is based on a story told by the sole surviving member of the squadron, Marcus Luttrell. "Survivor" impresses with the realism of combat scenes and the conduct of combat in conditions when the enemy surrounds you and is many times outnumbered. If you love everything about war, then you should definitely watch this survival movie.

Rescue Dawn (2006)

Another film about the war, this time in Vietnam, which tells the story of the German-American pilot Dieter Dengler, who was captured by the enemy.

The captive heroes of this film have to go through torture, hunger and uncertainty in the face of the guards. Even after escaping, danger awaits them in the form of malevolent villagers and jungle dwellers.
