10 longest roads in the world

Taking a road trip is one of the most desirable weekend plans for our generation. All kinds of songs and films are dedicated to this.

Plus, every time you travel with friends or family, you get tons of memories.

So, here is a list of the 10 longest roads in the world.

10. Interstate 80 (M-80) (USA)

Interstate 80 (M-80), also known on certain parts of this route as the Christopher Columbus Highway, is a 4,666 km motorway, making it the 10th longest road in the world. It is also the second longest interstate highway in the United States.

Interstate 80 starts at the interchange with US Highway 101 in San Francisco, California, and ends in New Jersey, where it stretches for 68 km, called the Bergen Passay Expressway, which runs through 11 US states.

The longest continuous section, M-80, is in Nebraska, stretching approximately 116 km between exit 318 in the Big Island area and kilometer 390 near Lincoln, Nebraska. It is also the longest stretch on the entire US interstate system.

9. Interstate 90 (M-90) (USA)

Adding to the list of longest U.S. roads, Interstate 90 (M-90), which runs from Boston, Massachusetts to Seattle, Washington, is the ninth longest road in the world and the longest interstate in the United States. Its length is 4860.2 km. Interstate passes through two long floating bridges: the Lacey W. Murrow Memorial Bridge and the Homer M. Hadley Memorial Bridge - crossing Lake Washington from Seattle to Mercer Island, a truly stunning sight!

The entire motorway was completed in 1985 and included existing roads for most of the route. Thanks to construction that began in the 1950s, most of the highway runs parallel to US Highway 20 and passes through 13 states.

8. American Highway 6 (USA)

US Highway 6, also known as the Grand Army of the Republic Highway, stretches from Bishop, California to Provincetown, Massachusetts. With a length of 5,158 km, it is the 8th longest highway in the world, and the 2nd longest and most uninterrupted highway in the United States. The highway previously stretched from Bishop to Long Beach, California and was considered a transcontinental route until 1964.

It was originally named the Roosevelt Freeway in the 1920s and 30s and later the Midland Trail Road. Later, the American Association of State Highway Officials (AASHO) adopted a federal numbering system for major interstate highways, and highways were officially designated.

7. American Highway 20 (USA)

So yes, the USA clearly dominates the list of longest roads, even more so in the state of Massachusetts! US Highway 20, which runs 5,415 km east-west from Boston, Massachusetts to Newport, Oregon, is not only the 7th longest highway in the world, but also the longest road in the United States.

Commissioned in 1926 and extended in 1940, the highway crosses 9 US states and is split in two by Wyoming's Yellowstone National Park. Originally, US Highway 20 (prior to its expansion in 1940) ended in Yellowstone National Park.

The western section of the highway intersects with US 101, and the eastern section runs parallel to the easternmost 138-mile (222 km) section of Interstate 90, known as the Massachusetts Turnpike.

6.China National Highway G010 (China)

Breaking down the US road chain, the G010 China National Highway, also known as the Tongsan Expressway, enters the scene. It has a length of 5700 km and ranks 6th in the world in length. It is also China's longest national highway. It stretches from Tongjiang City in eastern Heilongjiang Province to Sanya City in Hainan Province and is one of five north-south highways and seventh east-west highway in China.

It passes through the provinces of Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Shandong, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong. It has a missing link caused by the Kwongzhou Strait in Hainan in Guangdong, where cars are ferrying to Haikou in Hainan before ending in Sanya City. So this is not the most typical road!

5. The Golden Quadrangle Highway Network (India)

The road we've all been waiting for, this Indian road is fifth on the list! Consisting of a network of highways, it connects four major Indian cities - Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. In 1999, the design work for a 5,846 km highway was completed, construction began in 2001 and the highway was completed in January 2012.

The highway has 4 to 6 lanes along its entire length. The construction budget was 600 billion rupees (US $ 9.2 billion). It was provided by the National Highway Administration of India (NHAI) under the Ministry of Roads, Transport and Highways. It was built in 4 sections, each of which was entrusted to different contractors for its completion in 2012.

4. Trans-Canadian Highway (Canada)

The Trans-Canadian Motorway, with a total length of about 7,821 km, is the 4th longest motorway in the world and the 2nd longest national highway. Construction of the highway began in 1950, opened in 1962, and pavement and other construction work continued until 1971. The total investment reached about 1 billion, which is less than the Indian "Golden Quadrangle".

It stretches east-west from Victoria in British Columbia to St. John's in Newfoundland and Labrador, passing through all 10 provinces of Canada, and links all major cities in the country. You could compare this motorway to a spine!

3. Trans-Siberian highway

The 11,000 km Trans-Siberian Motorway is the third largest motorway in the world. In Russia, the part of the highway from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok with a section of the route covering the Asian road network is called AH-6. Along its entire length, the highway consists of 7 federal highways that coincide with the European route E30 and passing through Kazakhstan.

The longest section of the entire highway is the Russian route M58 or the Amur highway, a federal highway in Russia that stretches for 2,100 km from Chita to Khabarovsk.

2. Highway 1 (Australia)

It is a cliché that this highway is called 1 and also highway 1. The 2nd longest highway in the world is the longest national highway. It covers 14,500 km and consists of interconnected highways.

Highway 1, designated as a national highway in 1955, consisting of both single lane and multi-lane roads, covers all existing states in Australia with the exception of Brisbane and Darwin, which are not directly connected, sharing most of its route with the Australian national highway.

Originally proposed in 1955, Highway 1 was redeveloped in 1959, 1974 and 1998, and road traffic was over a million people a day. This is really too much workload!

1. Pan American Highway (USA)

Establishing its dominance on this list, the Pan American Highway, spanning some 48,000 km of US interstate system, is the longest road in the world, more than 3 times the 2nd longest road in the world! Including connecting highways, it connects more than 20 countries in the Americas. It has a 100 km halfway span, known as the Darien Gap, between Panama and Colombia.

The highway project, conceived in 1923, stretches from Buenos Aries in South America to Edmonton in North America. The first section of the highway was completed in 1950 by Mexico. While sections across the smaller Central American countries were built with assistance from the United States. Mexico has single-handedly built and funded sections of highways that run through the countryside.
