Steampunk tends to exist in the form of 19th and 20th century industrial Europe, enhanced by modern technology.
However, there are some works that break stereotypes, unique in themselves, but still very similar to steampunk.

15. Metropolis
Metropolis is one of those movies that doesn't quite match the steampunk style.
The story, based on a 1949 manga by Osamu Tezuka (also known as the "Father of Manga"), is set in a futuristic world similar to 1920s America.
Unlike the real 1920s, technology has evolved to create robots that coexist with humans.
But not as peacefully as robots are discriminated against.
Class warfare, existential crisis and a wonderful jazzy soundtrack make this film an interesting mix of steampunk.
14. Violet Evergarden
The action of this series takes place in a country that survived the First World War.
Violet was a soldier who lost both of her arms in the line of duty. She is ambiguously human, as we doubt that she is a humanoid or just a girl heavily affected by the war.
Either way, it's a touching story of a soldier trying to reintegrate into a society where she no longer has to fight.
13. Kaze-no-Tani-no-Navsika (Nausicaa in the Valley of the Wind)
Inevitably, the Ghibli movie will make it to the top anime list (spoiler alert: some of them are listed below).
Nausicaa occurs in 1000 yearsafter collapse of industrial civilization.
Thus, he presents us with a new twist on the steampunk genre.
The action does not take place during the industrial revolution, but rather shows its catastrophic consequences.
In a world threatened by the Sea of Decay and a humanity clearly dwindling, we can see Nausicaa's pursuit of knowledge that could save humanity against the backdrop of everyone else's fear that breeds the desire to destroy.
