Mermaids - one of the most charming fantastic creatures. From their gleaming tails to living underwater, they have attracted attention over the years and in many ways. Some claim to have really noticed these beauties, while most simply enjoy reading about them in books and watching them in TV shows and movies.

Mermaids remain one of the most compelling storytelling stories around, and as long as they keep audiences entertained, they will continue to be featured in films. Sometimes the mermaids in question are sweet and romantic, other times they are vicious and sly.

15. Miranda (1948)

Released in 1948, the film may have partly sparked interest in mermaids on the big screen. While short films have featured films in previous decades, "Miranda" was the first major production of mermaids.

The film, based on the play, depicts a fisherman who accidentally catches a mermaid and cares for her. She causes all sorts of jokes as she finds herself at the center of everyone's relationships in a small town. It even spawned a sequel.

Technically, this part of the franchise "Pirates of the Caribbean is not a mermaid movie, but it does have a new take on mermaids. It's kind of sirens, and they must be passed in Captain Blackbeard's complex scheme. The mermaids of this story are sweet and vicious.

In it, Shan is the titular mermaid. She travels to land in China supporting her family of mermaids who live on a shipwreck off the coast. The plan is to kill the person whose company is responsible for polluting their portion of the water. Shang, however, develops a crush on him when he drops his guard, and the film becomes more of an action adventure than a romantic comedy. The film is also unique in that it features not only mermaids - for example, an uncle with octopus limbs.

10. Little Mermaid (1989)

The first iconic cartoon about a mermaid, of course, will be The Little Mermaid, released by Disney in 1989. This animated film is slightly inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale and features Ariel, a mermaid who wants to live where people live and who falls in love with a prince named Eric.

Every Disney princess movie is celebrated because these leading ladies are always so beautiful, bright and bold. Plus, happy life moments, catchy songs, goofy buddies and villains always really add to the overall story.

The magical world of Harry Potter is filled with interesting creatures, including mermaids. They appeared in the fourth Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire movie in 2005.

During the Triwizard Tournament, these underwater creatures kept people in an enchanted sleep until the champion came down to rescue them. They live on Black Lake at Hogwarts, they are only seen for a short time, but they still help make this popular movie that mentions mermaids.

Of course, on this topic, one cannot fail to mention the film "Mermaids". Released in 1990, it starred three very famous female stars: Cher, Winona Ryder and Christina Ricci. It was actually Ricci's first film and Ryder also received awards and nominations for her performance.

Like all DCOMs, this movie had a compelling plot as it centered around a teenage boy who realizes that his mother is his mother. Mermaid. How did he discover it? Well, he started developing scales and fins when he was, of course, 13 years old!

Mermaid's Son may not be a recognized work, but it's an interesting and family-friendly option worth considering.

Similarly, Aquamarine came out in 2006. It is loosely based on a young adult novel from 2001. In this movie, two girls find a mermaid in a pool and these three main characters are played by Emma Roberts, Joanna." Jojo Levesque and Sarah Paxton.

Yes, anyone who likes a good underwater fantasy story should try this one too. Just look at these babies!

4. Peter Pan (1953)

Another Disney movie that features these fantastical creatures is Peter Pan. This animated film was released in 1953 and tells the story of children running and escaping reality in Neverland.

When Wendy, John and Michael Darling first came to this land with Peter, they met several mermaids. They had shiny tails. They used starfish as hair accessories. And they tried to drown Wendy! While these minor characters aren't the cutest, they deserve more attention as some very classic creatures from a much loved brand.

3. Girl from the water (2006)

As a thriller in this category, there is Water Girl, which has been around since 2006. It was written, produced and directed by M. Night Shyamalan (who is known for his twists and turns) and starred Paul Giamatti and Bryce Dallas. Howard (pictured here).

The plot of this film also centers on a woman found in a pool... a woman who is actually a water nymph. There aren't many stories about water nymphs, so this underrated story made it onto this list.

Melissa Joan Hart played Sabrina Spellman on Sabrina the Teenage Witch from 1996 to 2003.In 1999, a TV movie called Sabrina the Teenage Witch featured this teenage witch and her talking cat, Salem; they went to Australia's Great Barrier Reef to help save mermaids from ocean pollution. Actual care, beautiful environment, a bit of magic and more mermaids... What's not to like?

Last but not least, this list of mermaids has a unique movie called Beach Games. R eleased in 1965, it is the fifth installment in the film's beach party series and also the most popular installment.

That, too, is so much squeezed into this story. There is a singer named Sugar Kane who is being used by her agent. There is parachuting. There is a plan to make the guy jealous. There is a group of bikers. There is a villain who kidnaps Sugar. And there is a character named Bonehead who falls in love with a mermaid named Lorelei.
