How to make money on TikTok?

This guy has a million followers on TikTok. Now he shares his own experience with companies on how to do the same.

Sean Young, 26, is a professional TikTok consultant.

Six months ago, very few people could actually make money using the social network TikTok, an application for sharing video clips between young creative people who are just getting started. Brands haven't really started to dive into the masses, and the personal channel hasn't been filled with posts under the #ad hashtag for the most part. The main privileges of TikTok celebrities are high view rates, a bunch of likes, and maybe even recognize someone in the crowd.

While it's only a matter of time, before companies and celebrities wanted more than a billion eyes following them through an app. By fall 2019, most brands like Chipotle, ELF Cosmetics, and MAC were on the scene, while superstars like Will Smith were gaining popularity. Meanwhile, TikTok stars have been making lucrative deals with their talent and hitting music ratings.

All this opened up great opportunities for people who can already be called TikTok connoisseurs. One of them is 26-year-old Sean Young, who has almost reached a million subscribers. He is known as @seansaucetv. It previously gained popularity on the now defunct six-second video-sharing app Vine, and has rapidly gained a following on TikTok, releasing high-quality prank videos and collaborating with other famous Vine users in the past.

However, this is not what he makes money. Sean acts as a consultant for companies and celebrities seeking recognition on TikTok, while maintaining high-profile accounts like America's Funniest Home Videos. Today, he earns from $ 10,000 a month, spending four hours a day on TikTok.

I was able to intercept Sean at a TikTokers' meeting at Santa Monica Pierre in Los Angeles, a favorite filming location among fans of the movement, where we chatted about how stars combine TikTok with global releases in the film industry, how you can get a celebrity to participate in silly dancing on TikTok and why the primitive videos originally conceived are getting better.

How did you first gain popularity on TikTok?

This happened right after the online video technical conference VidCon (last June). For about a week I have been creating my account. I saw my longtime Vine platform mates at VidCon, so I was able to collaborate with extremely talented creative people. In the first week of my account's existence, 100,000 people subscribed to it. I was fortunate enough to have the experience of running an account with 1.5 million subscribers on the Vine platform, which is why I was able to grow so fast.

TikTok reminded me of the Vines that I shot in 2014 when that was my only job. I thought something like, "I can just redo all those things." In my first month, I released a couple of videos that exploded on TikTok like a virus, and also appeared wherever I could, outside of the TikTok platform. It was the jackpot.

How did you come to this business?

I was referred to America's Funniest Home Videos by a friend who worked there. I started working as an editor and saw that they weren't paying enough attention to Instagram promotion, one day I took over Instagram, mentioned TikTok and turned it into my current profession.

It was a good idea to have an AFV record on my resume, but I also kept Instagram accounts for companies, so I had friends who immediately thought of me when it came to such services. When I started doing TikTok, people started to hear phrases like: "Hey, I have a musician or a person who needs to promote the application, and I gave him your email address." As soon as I did this once, people began to think of me as “their boyfriend from TikTok”.

The very fact that I have a million subscribers to my personal page gives me a lot of credibility when I talk to merchants or celebrities: “I know how to get your account to get as many views as you want. Trust me".

When did the business start to pick up steam?

Everything started spinning at one moment, in November-December. People had big doubts about TikTok, but now everyone is passionate about it and absolutely everyone wants to do it right. In fact, they are forced to constantly use the help of editors. This is now in the past.

I have been recommended to really big YouTubers, Facebook users and even top stars as someone who can help promote their accounts. People registered elsewhere might have a team to help out on other platforms, but when it comes to TikTok, they need someone who specializes in just that.

How much money do you get monthly?

December and this month are the first months when I make over $ 10,000. If things continue to go the same way, I hope to make an amount close to $ 150,000 or $ 200,000 annually. Looking back over the past year, I realize that I was not fully engaged in TikTok, but was only an outdated Weiner. Now I have knowledge of how to create content on the Internet, but now I am doing it for companies.

At the moment, I am giving my account about 10% of the attention, but I hope to increase this figure to 50%. At the same time, I enjoy the stability of AFV. I'm just making a deal with a brand representative for the card game What Do You Meme ?. With many musicians, in addition to working together, I additionally agree on the musical accompaniment of my videos.

"Celebrities want to create hits, hit the box office and become popular in China and India."

What do you advise companies and celebrities to do?

I distract them from publishing content that is not directly related to the application. When it comes to celebrities and musicians, people don't care about professionalism at all, they just need to see that the person appreciates the application. They can create the stupidest TikTok trends, but only those related directly to the application, and this will show their awareness in this area. We are focused on trends that reveal talent. They know absolutely nothing about TikTok, we tell them exactly what to do, down to the steps, but millions of fans will think that a person is watching simple videos shot with soundtrack in the application.

How are these meetings going? Why are they saying they are joining TikTok?

I'm just on the phone. I don't actually meet with them one-on-one, I never do that. This is why it almost doesn't feel real. Everything happens through my phone. And for me it seems impossible that this happened at all.

Which celebrity have you worked with?

I'm not allowed to talk about them, but I've worked with four.

Why did they say they were joining TikTok?

This is likely. Charli D'Amelios and people like him are becoming so popular on every platform since TikTok that it's reminiscent of old bands like Magcon kids on Vine.

As for some other celebrities, they want to gain the box office with their hits, to become the most popular in China and India. India has a huge audience, which is why it is so good for musicians and people who want to broadcast live. If your target is a global audience, TikTok is the perfect place to go.

Do you have a whole team of TikTok consultants?

Honestly, there are only a few of them. Cosette [Rinab, @cosette] is the only one I know.I know her boyfriend on Vine and randomly crossed paths with him, then he said that his girlfriend was doing this, and established contact between us. Now she is referring clients to me.

What's the secret to TikTok's popularity?

The app is pretty weird. The “for you” page is divided into categories for children, so you have to keep the PG rating, but at the same time, you need to be funny for the audience of different ages. Content that does not contain speech or dialogue, but uses sounds and music, is an essential component.

What content attracts people the best?

I make the stupidest TikTok videos because the audience is so young that I get a wave of disapproval in the comments, but it doesn't bother me. Even when people write, "This is stupid," such comments help the video get on the page "for you." So when I started to play by these rules, namely to purposefully make these stupid videos, every page with memes in the world posts my content. It looks like a new strategy. You need to play this game.

"I make the stupidest TikTok videos because the audience is so young that I get a wave of disapproval in the comments, but I don't care."

What is the hardest part of your job?

Try to avoid burnout. So much is happening literally every minute. The period of the video's existence is about two days. Every account and new client I work with has to be remembered at all times, no matter what videos I watch. Torn between two iPhones for work and an iPad, I spend four straight hours on TikTok every day.

What's your ultimate goal?

I don't want to be in front of the camera. It is enough for me to be an intermediary, making sure that everyone is doing their job. I have a company, VRTCL, and my goal is to sell it. The record companies have their own traditional style of dealing, but if they had their own TikTok representative, they could oversee the release of each song. We have remote employees working with us all the time, and having 26 videos per song on TikTok helps gain popularity. The ability to organize this kind of work for recording studios is truly the next level. The same company can forge ties to television shows and movies under the same name.

What do you think the future holds for TikTok advice?

I think teenagers and young children will run the accounts of top-notch stars. Children are so smart, they grow with this business and know all the trends better than anyone else. It's not too difficult, it takes a lot of strategy, but these kids know how to do whatever they want and they are popular themselves. I am really wary of 12 or 13 year olds who could take my job in a couple of years. This is why I am pushing myself so hard right now.

Some people are already making millions on this platform. Below are 6 ways to start making money on TikTok today.

The best ways to make money on TikTok:

1. Live broadcasts

Unlike Instagram and other platforms, here you can collect money simply by going on the air, and subscribers will donate. The more subscribers, the more donations and views there will be. They will want to support you with donations for creating entertaining and educational content for them.

But they will donate only if they find your videos interesting. They must be useful and valuable to the consumer.

2. Development and sale of accounts

You can make good money by developing an account and selling it like Instagram users do. All you have to do is choose a niche and create entertaining content to attract your target audience.

Create an account and start posting videos on a specific topic. After your audience grows, find brands that would like to sell their products to your followers.

Create a profile to sell your products. Holding auctions and launching new products while streaming will make you more visible on the internet. In your profile description, add a link to your website where you can purchase them.

3. Brand support

Brand support is akin to developing and selling accounts. But instead of selling, a company or famous person pays to advertise their products on your profile. The audience will trust you and think about buying what you have recommended to them.

4. Account management services

Management services for content creators are another good way to make money on TikTok. Some of them have an audience of millions and are looking for someone like you to develop a content strategy. If you are smart and creative, then you can become a content moderator for one of the TikTokers.

Perhaps you want to develop your own TikTok page, but to be successful in this business requires a lot of experience, which can be gained by working with one of the creators. This will allow you to better learn about the ways of promotion and what needs to be done to make brands want to work with you.

5. Counseling

You can become a TikTok consultant and make good money from it by helping people increase views from hundreds to hundreds of thousands or even millions. But in order to do this work, you need to know how the application works on a professional level. People will pay to use your experience and mindset in their promotion.

6. Mediation

You can make good money quickly and effortlessly by acting as a go-between between the content creator and the brands that want to work with it. Your task is to manage transactions and ensure compliance with all requirements and conditions on both sides.

The app already has an internal engagement program built in, but brands prefer to enter into agreements with individuals so as not to pay a certain percentage to the app.
