We see enough silly TV shows every week. However, from time to time, a show like Game of Thrones pops up on our screens and hooks us to the jacks.
It's exciting, bloody and beautiful. From dark dungeons to snow-capped mountains, the contrasting landscapes are captivating, and each one is filled with a new story. With strong storytelling and breathtaking imagery, it's no wonder this series has broken all sorts of records.
The acting may seem a little tight at times, but it fits perfectly into the medieval look and style of the show. Yes, dark and gloomy, but again in accordance with the story. Yes, some scenes can be difficult for some people. If you can handle a lot of nudity (which is amazing), heartbreaking deaths and shocking betrayals, then Game of Thrones is what you need.
This is one of the most addictive TV series ever. Not surprisingly, season 6 premiered simultaneously in 172 countries (this is the largest televised telesimulation to date)! The only problem with Game of Thrones is that there isn't much of it. Only ten episodes were released every year (in 2017 - only seven), and therefore we want even more.
Like me, many people are looking for TV shows like Game of Thrones. I decided to take a closer look and compile a list of other TV series like Game of Thrones.
So here are the best TV series similar to Game of Thrones;
1. Rome
Rome could easily have made Game of Thrones popular. It's a shame that it was closed after just two seasons. Rome never attracted an audience enough to keep it on screen, and the production was insanely expensive.
The good news is that you can still watch 22 episodes of this excellent series on HBO Go or Amazon on Demand. Everything you need to know is covered in these few episodes. It doesn't feel like the story isn't over. By the end of the second season, you will know which of them survived and which failed.
Rome lacks thrilling duels, but it more than makes up for in a storyline and compelling acting. If you are looking for a storyline like Game of Thrones for yourself, Rome is the best solution for you.
2. Vikings
The Vikings trace the history of Ragnar Lothbrok, a farmer who eventually becomes King of Denmark, terrorizing France and England with his constant raids. In his adventures, he is joined by his troubled brother Rollo, his first wife Lagertha, and the shipbuilder Floki.
Although not "Game of Thrones" by any depth of imagination, I still love its storyline, which has captivated it over four seasons. As you watch, you will see how much you will like the guys you hated in the first season, and how much you will admire the heroes of the previous season. The plot and nature of the development are ingenious, and as for the depiction of medieval Scandinavia, I would say that it is quite accurate. If you enjoy Game of Thrones, but nudity and violence is sometimes too difficult to deal with, you should try watching Vikings. If you like this drama, check out some of the Vikings-like TV series.
3. Black sails
Sex, cruelty and nudity - there are many such moments in Black Sails.
The plot of the film, which opens on Treasure Island, tells the story of the adventures of one of the most terrible and notorious pirates of the Golden Age, Captain Flint. On an island filled with thieves, pirates and prostitutes, Flint has to control the situation. Season 1 will help you familiarize yourself with the characters and storytelling. You might think this is all a little hot-tempered, but seasons 2 and 3 will change your mind.

4. House of Cards
If plot twists and turns, smuggling and political intrigue are what you like most about Game of Thrones, then the House of Cards is for you. The plot follows influential Washington politicians such as Kevin Spacey and Kate Mara, where all characters thrive under Fincher's leadership. Fincher did a great job with this drama. Reducing the number of episodes to 13 per season is not easy.
House of Cards is a poignant political drama. What if someone is not interested in politics? Will they like it? In short: "Yes". Even if politics is not your favorite form of entertainment, the House of Cards will give you a lot of fun. The script is so accurate, poignant and truthful that it does not go beyond the top or bottom line.
The advantage of House of Cards is that you will be able to watch one episode after another without any commercial breaks. You can even watch the entire season in one sitting, (but not recommended), even if that's your topic. In addition to this, the episodes do not have any flashbacks or flashbacks, thus freeing up time for new stories, conspiracies and actions. As hard as it is to get used to this series layout, once you stop paying attention to it, House of Cards will become even more attractive to you.
One of the best moments in this series is the destruction of the fourth wall. You will see Frank Underwood talking to the camera from time to time to explain and give his opinion. Actor Kevin Spacey does a great job with these scenes.
5. The Tudors
The Tudors is the story of the reign of Henry VIII in England. It is about his political influence on the region.
Like Game of Thrones, this series is about politics and power struggles. It may not be historically correct, but it's still very exciting to watch this throughout all four seasons. If you're looking for historical accuracy, ignore this show. However, I don't think historical uncertainty is a problem for a Game of Thrones fan. You want to watch some serious, harsh drama, and the Tudors are full of them.
6. Spartacus
Spartacus is a series packed with action, brutality and drama - everything you can count on when watching TV shows like Game of Thrones. While there is no room for fantasy in this series, it features gladiators with swords. Didn't I mention that there are a lot of betrayals and conspirators here? You can watch the entire series on Netflix.
7. Boardwalk Empire
Set against the backdrop of a thriving illegal alcohol business during the Prohibition era, a period in which the political environment was intertwined with violence and corruption, Boardwalk Empire is the tale of Nucky Thompson, a politician who also happens to be a mobster who played a double game to his advantage. Due to his luxurious lifestyle, the federal government began to take a closer look at him, making life for our hero a little more difficult than it already is.
What surprised me was how far the creators of this series went in working out the smallest details. The accuracy exceeds all expectations. All the furniture, every corner, every street seems truly authentic, as if everything was filmed in the 1920s. This series sets new standards for storytelling beyond perfection. With talented and experienced actors, stunning directorial skills and twisty storylines, Boardwalk Empire lays claim to being one of the best historical series ever to air on TV.
8. Executioner-bastard, or Executioner
The Bastard Executioner started in September 2015. After watching one season on screen before it closed, I was convinced that this medieval epic deserves a place on this list of series like Game of Thrones.
The two-hour premiere cost $ 10 million, with subsequent episodes costing nearly $ 2 million each. But judging by the quality of the content and the ratings, I would say that the money is well spent.
The story is set in Wales sometime in the 1300s. The plot of the film tells about the soldier Ulicn Brattle, who is fed up with war enough and wants to spend the rest of his life in peace. Unfortunately, he discovers that he has no choice but to take up the sword again, this time as a guerrilla. The first few episodes don't reveal much, but it's clear the Bastard Executioner won't be a weekly bad boy episode. They are trying to tell a more serious story.
Perhaps this is the best remedy for losing Game of Thrones. Less fantasies and perhaps less nudity, but each episode is full of pain, blood, stories and violence.
9. The Last Kingdom
It's a shame that many people don't know about the show or the story it is based on. Like Game of Thrones, The Last Kingdom is based on a series of books called Saxon Tales. The film tells the story of the orphan Uchtred, who was born in England in the 10th century AD at a time when the Viking invasions were at their peak.
Eye gouging, head cutting, stabbing and crucifixion, among other things, are all here for your enjoyment. There are many crunchy bones, fights, in which there are so many exciting fights. The only thing missing is the explicit nude scenes that we're used to in Game of Thrones. This is not surprising as the series is broadcast on the BBC, which is not a premium channel. However, this show is worth your time.
10. Taboo
Tom Hardy takes us to London, in 1814, when his character is trying to regain lost pride in his homeland, where he has almost no friends.
Taboo easily ranks among the top 10 shows that first hit the screens in 2017. Season 1 has been a success, and the company is gearing up to air its second season sometime in 2019. Hopefully the second season will keep the intrigue of the first one.
The only thing that still bothers me is that at the moment he is too focused on one character. It would be much more interesting if there were more actors involved. So far, the series lacks a multi-layered storyline that is certainly part of historical fiction. Despite his faults, he keeps most of his promises.
11. Borgia
The Borgia tells the story of a family that achieved outstanding recognition in Italy during the Renaissance. The 9-episode miniseries is filled with nudity, incest, murder, blood and violence that can be digested so easily that it looks like a cartoon at times. Consider this an easy Game of Thrones, but with a lot more incest. The family is said to have not been discriminated against when it came to sleeping with someone. Therefore, this ingenious presentation remains relevant to the harsh historical reality.
The strong cast has done an amazing job with their characters, but Jeremy Irons draws particular attention by portraying Rodrigo Borgia, a cunning, cranky diplomat with a sharp tongue. When he uses his authority and influence to become Pope, times begin to be tough for his family members.
It's a shame that Borgias doesn't get as much attention as Game of Thrones and the Vikings. But if you haven't watched it, now is the time to start.
12. American gods
The former prisoner is recruited by a cheerful, mysterious old man as a bodyguard. It is unlikely that he knows that he will now find himself in the center of the flaring war between the old and new gods. As they go to war for a change of power, he learns more about this secret side of America, where mythical gods and magic are real.
In general, this series will expand the horizons of the fantasy world. After reading the book, you will find yourself in a fantasy world in a matter of seconds, and the American Gods will certainly drag you into their world.
For those who do not have the opportunity to read the book, it will be a little difficult to penetrate this series, especially in its first episodes. Anyway, keep watching it. After carefully studying it, you will understand that the symbolism, as well as the main storyline - at first glance, incomparable stages, merge into a beautifully woven story, which eventually ends in season 1.
Even the weakest American gods are a visual extravaganza - an anomaly unlike anything else on modern television. In this part, a thriller with a supernatural comedy will cause a storm of emotions in many people, thanks to its mocking subtext and ridiculous appearance. Let's say that this show will affect people from different walks of life in different ways.
13. The world of the Wild West, or the Western world
The Western World is an overly complex and convoluted storyline directed by Stephen Williams that you can simply give up. It's a series that rewards loyalty and perseverance with breathtaking stories filled with treacherous twists and turns along the way.
The sci-fi genre has a niche, but it is one of the few series that has managed to gain worldwide attention, despite having the same hooks that are found in all other sci-fi series. This works mainly because of the inconceivable cost of production that only companies like HBO can afford. Combined with a stellar cast, you have a unique recipe for one of this generation's greatest creations.
It is not easy to get a viewer for this show, especially if you are on the road to creating a show that requires little or no viewership. The Western world, however, relies on you enough to allow you to piece together some of its most confusing moments. It plays like a Chinese puzzle game and treats you like a seasoned player who is flawless in his game. Are you ready for the challenge?

14. Outlander
Outlander has hit both highs and lows over the past four seasons, in part because in such a short amount of time, sometimes in a single episode, it can be terrific and mundane. Even though it doesn't hit every time, it gets close enough to the point.
Based on how important time transcending romance is, you might believe this show is an easy piece of history. Of course it does in the first few episodes. But make no mistake. This series has an amazing ability to deceive viewers and catch them by surprise, twisting the plot several times.
There is a rape scene that I will not talk about in detail, but which plays a huge role in shaping the story. This scene is only a preview of the tests to be passed. Outlander is riddled with nasty themes like this, and that's all you need to know about this time-warping slice of time. Take Game of Thrones, throw in some mature romance and leisurely drama, and take epic battles out of it; you end up with Outlander.

15.Space
This fantastic burglar drama may not boast of the splendor of Game of Thrones, but its mysterious story will immediately hook you to the living.
The whole drama takes place in space, mainly around our solar system. Although it all starts slowly, it is gradually gaining momentum. Unlike Game of Thrones, this series is best watched in small quantities.
