10 women's trends from the 90s that are back in fashion

In the world of beauty and fashion, trends come and go - but the best of them come back with interesting modern incarnations. It’s fortunate that the shoulder pads from the 80s, along with the ugly mullet hairstyles, remained where they belong - in the past. History, however, tends to repeat itself, and certain images reappear in the world of beauty. Take a look at the popular 90s looks that have come back to us today.

1. Glitter and bronze

The glitter of the 90s was not enough for us, and, obviously, it is still not enough. Grunge is back in style, with more makeup makers using glitter, bronzes and metallic tones to create lipsticks that mimic runway looks.

“Glossy lips were everywhere in Fall Fashion Week,” said Mindy Green, makeup artist and beauty salon owner. "The most fashionable shade today is metallic gray, very reminiscent of steel popular in the 90s with a bluish sheen, although then it was more silver." Are you tempted to try it for yourself? Experiment with Cat Won Dee's Studded Kiss Lipstick.

2. Iridescent makeup

The return of iridescent makeup, also called unicorn makeup, thanks to the use of countless highlighters, is truly epic. “These shimmery shimmers on the face, eyes and lips still have a special charm,” says Green.

For example, Too Faced's products include a unicorn tears lipstick that shatters like hotcakes, and a recent novelty for sparkling shimmering, the Light of Love highlighters. It seems that magical mythical creatures have embodied in sparkling pink and purple makeup and have taken over the whole world.

3. Sexually tousled hair

Thanks to the Victoria's Secret models for bringing this lush hairstyle back into the spotlight. Unlike the curls and tantalizing hairstyles of the 80s, the 90s saw the rise of luxurious glittery waves using large curlers. “This is a very sexy image that will never fade away. We owe its revival to such stars as Katy Perry and Selena Gomez, ”explains Green. It doesn't matter if this look is back or never left us, one thing is clear: curvy, sexy curls will always be in fashion.

4. Necklace

Although the necklace is more of a fashion accessory, it can also be attributed to beauty trends. “In the 90s, the necklace was a piece of jewelry made in the form of a tattoo or a spiked ring and was worn by its followers of grunge and Gothic style,” says Green. But now everything has changed. Now part of the beauty world, the choker is meant to complement makeup and hair, as seen in celebrities such as Rihanna and Kendall Jenner. The best news in all of this is that now the necklace can be worn by people of any age, not just teenagers, so beauty gurus urge everyone to try on this look.

5. Visible lip liner

Thanks to Pamela Anderson and Madonna, this look was very popular in the 80s and 90s. Now the Kardashian team has made him even more cocky. “It is the eyeliner that creates the trendy light to dark shimmer on the lips,” says Green. "With a slightly darker eyeliner than the lipstick or gloss you are using, trace the outline of your lips from the outside to the inside." To complete the look, gently blend the rough lines without smudging the outline.

6. Matte eyeshadow

Anyone who was at least a teenager in the 90s will remember matte tones in makeup and hairstyles (take Justin Timberlake's bleached hair ends). Fortunately, matte tones are making a comeback with a lot of finesse. “Thanks to the very fine structure of the new colors, modern matte eyeshadows are much softer than the grainy eyeshadows of the 90s,” says Michelle Spieler, Hollywood make-up artist. "In addition, in the 90s we did not recommend matte eyeshadow for mature women, but now they can use it too."

The best thing about matte eyeshadows is that they can be applied to the eyelid, the inner corner of the eye, and even under the eyebrows.

7. Body shine

There is something about sparkle and sparkle that keeps them from fading. “The growing popularity of sparkling body sprays is due to the popularity of Bath & Body Works, which creates products that women can use to enhance their legs in mini skirts or shorts,” says Green. In the beauty industry, the tendency to accentuate and give clear contours is gaining more and more popularity, so both women and men use a variety of products with glitter.

8. Pigtails

The boho style has returned to the beauty industry. “In the 90s, the most notable braid hair stars were Janet Jackson in Poetic Justice and trendsetter Gwen Stefani of No Doubt,” Green says. "In 2017, this style is very popular at music festivals like Coachella, and you can see it on many famous artists like Beyoncé." If your usual choice is a conservative knot or a ponytail, braids can spice up your look.

9. Bulky hairstyles

The opening of styling salons - establishments that do nothing other than styling hair for at least $ 20 - such as DryBar or Blo proves that professional hair styling is back in vogue. “Previously, voluminous hairstyles were popular mainly in large cities, but now such salons are opening everywhere,” says Spieler. And thanks to YouTube, you can learn how to do the styling yourself.

10. Nude lip makeup

The Nude style is one of the most widely used in makeup. Although his popularity peaked in the 90s (someone may even remember painting his lips with a face concealer, trying to achieve the same tone with the skin), this trend has never completely disappeared. Owners of fair skin may not dare to try on this image, and they will be right - it looks much more advantageous on tanned skin or a little darker.
